The company: A leading company in the maritime industry, dedicated to ensuring safe and efficient operations for their fleet to oversee vessel operations, marine safety, cargo operations and quality.

Job Description: The Senior Manager of Operations is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of vessel operations and marine safety for the Car Carrier fleet operating in the Pacific Ocean region. This includes close communication and coordination with business partners, regulatory bodies, agents, and relevant departments at our headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:
Marine Safety and Operations:
  • Respond to non-standard events including marine accidents, weather, and vessel movements/scheduling.
  • Provide maritime technical advice to subordinates.
  • Support decision-making for vessel operations and ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Monitor and report on industry information impacting labor, regulatory requirements, and marine terminal efficiency.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, cost management procedures, and corrective actions.
  • Collect information related to safe ship operations in the region.
  • Provide maritime technical support for new vessels entering and calling at ports.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and local rules for vessel operation and cargo handling.
Cargo:
  • Supervise vessel operations, cargo safety checks, and coordinate with headquarters.
  • Manage cargo handling accidents/prevention and quality improvement measures.
  • Communicate and support area OEMs’ port representatives.
  • Provide marine technical support for cargo business and BEV safety transportation initiatives.
  • Offer marine technical advice for loading plans and local port captains’ activities.
  • Manage contract and supervision of regional Port Captains.
  • Plan and execute special cargo handling operations.
  • Manage freight survey results and support local quality audits.
Accounting:
  • Review and approve vendor invoicing and cargo expenses.
  • Review rebates related to vessel operation.
Area Management, Organization, and Others:
  • Plan and implement development strategies.
  • Evaluate staff, support skill development, and manage permanent and temporary staff.
  • Communicate and participate in regulatory, industry associations, and environmental committees.
  • Participate in and advise the Car Carrier Fire Task Force and port-related events.
  • Create customer value through information sharing and business development strategies.
  • Maintain positive relationships within the maritime community.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a Maritime Institution or similar specialized maritime technical education.
  • Credentialed Seafarer as a Licensed Deck Officer on a commercial vessel (Master Mariner or Chief Mate experience preferred).
  • Minimum 10+ years of direct maritime industry experience with some sea service preferred.
  • Ability to work weekends and travel domestically and internationally (up to 15-20% overnight travel).
  • Strong leadership, training, and management skills.
  • High level of coordination and management skills for smooth communication with departments and business partners.
