Our client seeking a talented and dedicated Associate Manager, R&D Electrical Engineer to support the team in our technology development efforts for various maritime technology projects. As an electrical expert, you will be actively involved in the collaboration of technical specifications and plan approval for new buildings and be recognized as an expert within the marine engineering discipline for developing new solutions.

You will stay updated on developments within the marine engineering discipline and how they should be implemented on board vessels. Additionally, you will be actively aware of new technology developments to apply to new projects and retrofits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform market research to determine the technical success of products, research product ideas for viability, and analyze the performance of existing market products.
  • Assist the Research & Development area of expertise in meetings and visits with stakeholders.
  • Stay apprised of current and changing marine engineering practices, and receive and act on feedback regarding vessel performance.
  • Collaborate in the design development, system, and equipment specifications evaluation to ensure compliance with all statutory, safety, and operational standards.
  • Monitor products and performance of manufacturers providing fleet equipment and services.
  • Liaise with the New Building Technical Director to continually update vessel specifications under construction or conversion, ensuring accurate records of all changes.
  • Manage department workflow by reviewing specifications, drawings, diagrams, and technical submissions in accordance with established procedures. Participate in FATs and perform shipyard inspections.
  • Follow up and provide technical inputs on warranty failure claims in conjunction with the Guarantee Engineer.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Impact:
  • Maintain contact with Shipyards, Classification Societies, Regulatory Bodies, Professional Bodies, subcontractors, and equipment manufacturers to monitor developments in the field of responsibility.
  • Support the Management in developing procedures and schedules for equipment and system inspections, testing, and subsequent protection against damage and misuse.
Education – Essential:
  • Degree in a specialist area with MSc or MEng desirable or Class 1 Certificate of Competency as Marine Engineer or significant technical experience in a relevant area such as a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience – Essential:
  • Substantial experience working in environments such as cruise shipbuilding.
  • Substantial experience working with Marine Engineers and developers.
  • Substantial experience performing market research.

  • Strong computer proficiency in Excel (including use of formulas, charts, and tables), PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Preferred experience with ABB/GE Marine High Voltage Equipment: High voltage generators, generator voltage controls, switchgear and distribution switchboards, circuit breakers and protective devices, motor starters, propulsion drives, transformers, and VFD.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of high voltage safety.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering and installation standards including IEC, IEEE, API, IMO MODU, SOLAS, and class regulations (BV, RINA).
