Reporting To: Head of Innovation, Research & Development
Location: London or Southampton, including a hybrid working policy.
Whilst there is preference for regular London office attendance, we will consider applicants located a commutable distance to the Southampton office.
The Lead Scientist (Operational Data) is responsible for a portfolio of cross-functional research and product development initiatives relating to the continuous improvement and optimisation of the Silverstream® System through the acquisition and exploitation of operational data.
Experience/Qualifications
Higher Degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or equivalent subject is essential.
A PhD Degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or equivalent subject is highly desirable.
Chartered Status as an Engineer is desirable and as a minimum the individual should be able to demonstrate clear pathway to achieving said status.
A minimum of 5 years working in an engineering role, with at least 3 years in the marine industry, in a position of technical responsibility for leading and implementing projects. An equivalent role in Academia (inclusive of undertaking PhD studies) will also be considered.
Combined knowledge and understanding of naval architecture and hydrodynamics, as well as data science is essential.
Experience solving challenging engineering problems using advanced data analysis techniques is essential.
Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, R, or C++ is essential.
Experience with field / in-service experiments (experimental design, sensors, uncertainty analysis) is desirable.
Track record of coming up with new ideas, as demonstrated by projects or first-author publications/ conferences.
Ability to lead on works independently in a fast-moving company environment.
Ability to communicate clearly at all levels in the organisation is essential.
Previous experience in managing external stakeholders and industry partners is desirable.
Work effectively in a team, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of others to help teamwork development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
