Are you passionate about driving continuous improvement and system optimisation? This is your opportunity to join Silverstream Technologies as a Lead Scientist specialising in Numerical Modelling within the Innovation, Research & Development team.

Reporting To: Head of Innovation, Research & Development 

Location: London or Southampton. 
Whilst there is preference for regular London office attendance, we will consider applicants located a commutable distance to the Southampton office.

The Lead Scientist (Numerical Modelling) is responsible for a portfolio of cross-functional research and product development initiatives relating to the continuous improvement and optimisation of the Silverstream® System through the development and application of numerical models and modelling techniques.

Experience/Qualifications
  • Higher Degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or equivalent subject is essential.   
  • A PhD Degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or equivalent subject is highly desirable. 
  • Chartered Status as an Engineer is desirable and as a minimum the individual should be able to demonstrate clear pathway to achieving said status.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in an engineering role, with at least 3 years in the marine industry, in a position of technical responsibility for leading and implementing projects. An equivalent role in Academia (inclusive of undertaking PhD studies) will also be considered. 
  • Combined knowledge and understanding of naval architecture and hydrodynamics, as well as numerical modelling is essential.   
  • Experience solving challenging engineering problems using advanced numerical modelling techniques is essential. 
  • Proficiency in a commercial CFD software package such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, or Cadence CFD for Marine Applications is essential. Proficiency in opensource CFD software such as OpenFOAM is a plus.
  • Experience with full-scale validation of numerical models is desirable.
  • Experience in developing non-CFD numerical models is desirable. 
  • Track record of coming up with new ideas, as demonstrated by projects or first-author publications/ conferences.  
  • Ability to lead on works independently in a fast-moving company environment. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly at all levels in the organisation is essential.   
  • Previous experience in managing external stakeholders and industry partners is desirable.  
  • Work effectively in a team, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of others to help teamwork development. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
