Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Harbour Master and Marine Support Manager to manage the safety and efficiency of maritime operations across the ports of Larne and Cairnryan. This critical role combines oversight of the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and day-to-day responsibility for navigation and marine activities in both harbours. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with regulations, driving safety performance, and upholding the highest standards of marine operations.
Location: Larne and Cairnryan Ports - Must be UK resident or hold UK Right to Work.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management System (SMS):
- Support the management and continual improvement of the Company Fleet SMS in collaboration with the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and vessel Masters.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, guidelines, and regulations, including the ISPS Code.
- Oversee navigation safety and marine operations within the ports and their approaches.
- Ensure compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code, maintaining and updating the Marine Safety Management System as required.
- Fulfil statutory Harbour Master responsibilities, including managing General Directions, Terms & Conditions, and other statutory orders.
- Supervise marine operations, including conservancy, pilotage, and oil pollution response.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory compliance and liaise with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
- Safety performance and regulatory compliance across all areas of responsibility.
- Safe navigation and marine activity oversight for approximately 6,000 vessel movements annually.
- Delivery of a high standard of customer satisfaction through effective resource management.
- Ability to obtain a UKHMA Harbour Master Certificate of Competency or equivalent qualification within 18 months.
- STCW 95 II/2 (Masters Unlimited) Certificate of Competency or a relevant STCW qualification combined with extensive safety management experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of marine, harbour, and environmental legislation, as well as PMSC and marine safety management systems.
- Experience in ro-ro ferry and general cargo operations.
- Proven ISPS management experience at a senior level.
- Commercially focused with a sound understanding of health and safety requirements.
