Overall Purpose of the Job
  • Operate and maintain marine equipment aboard cruise ships in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with customer contracts and Charter Party agreements. This must be done within approved budgets and to the satisfaction of both the cruise ship owners and their guests.
  • Approve purchases according to the Company Authority Matrix and ensure alignment with operational needs.
  • Perform tasks listed under the Responsibilities section with a focus on enhancing guest experiences and maintaining the ship's technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Oversee the technical management and performance of cruise ships, including maintaining technical budgets to ensure smooth operations.
  • Act as the primary onshore point of contact for cruise ships regarding day-to-day technical management, mobilization activities, and guest service standards. Liaise with cruise ship owners and stakeholders as defined by the Fleet Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime Laws, Regulations, and industry standards specific to cruise operations, such as SOLAS and MARPOL.
  • Coordinate and ensure that all required statutory and classification surveys for ship systems and equipment are conducted on time, particularly those impacting guest safety and experience.
  • Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs to prevent technical or operational issues that could impact voyage schedules, guest safety, or the onboard experience.
  • Continuously improve maintenance systems by providing feedback to the Fleet Manager and technical support teams.
  • Monitor and follow up on the cruise ship's technical performance, ensuring any non-conformities are addressed promptly. Collaborate with crew and shipboard personnel to enhance performance in key operational areas like energy efficiency, noise reduction, and onboard services.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise major ship repairs, refurbishments, and dry-docking, ensuring minimal disruption to cruise schedules and guest services.
  • Handle emergencies or significant technical issues, such as equipment breakdowns or mechanical failures. Ensure timely repairs and coordinate with insurance, fleet managers, and owners when necessary.
  • Lead vessel condition assessments to ensure that all onboard systems—especially those directly affecting guest comfort, safety, and entertainment—are in optimal working condition.
  • Participate in performance appraisals of key ship personnel, with a focus on maintaining a high level of service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with the cruise ship’s management system and report non-conformities, particularly those that could impact passenger safety or comfort.

  • Collaborate with other departments, including hospitality, entertainment, and guest services, to optimize overall vessel performance while ensuring a high-quality experience for guests.
  • Work both independently and as part of a dynamic team, demonstrating strong decision-making and problem-solving skills to maintain smooth cruise operations.
  • Maintain proactive communication with all stakeholders, including crew, ship owners, and shore-based teams. Share information openly to ensure the entire team is informed and aligned.
  • Adapt quickly to ad hoc situations, showing flexibility in responding to technical challenges and unexpected operational issues.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of routines and solutions to enhance both the ship's technical management and guest satisfaction.
