A globally recognized Classification Society is expanding its Marine & Offshore activities and is looking for a Gas Carriers Operational Expert to join its team in Doha, Qatar. The company is a leader in testing, inspection, and certification services, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence in the maritime industry. With a strong presence in the gas shipping sector, they provide specialized technical support to shipowners, operators, and regulatory bodies worldwide.
The Role
This role is responsible for providing specialized expertise across the entire lifecycle of gas carriers, from pre-contract and new construction to in-service operations. You will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and technical excellence in the design, classification, and operations of LNG, LPG, and gas-fueled vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Consultancy: Provide expert guidance on the design, construction, and operation of gas carriers, focusing on Deck-Marine Operations disciplines.
Client Liaison: Maintain strong relationships with key clients, acting as a trusted advisor for their operational teams.
Project Coordination: Follow up on new building projects remotely, working closely with teams in Korea and China, and providing updates to clients in Doha and the Middle East.
Training & Knowledge Sharing: Develop training materials, lead technical workshops, and deliver in-house training sessions for clients on operational and safety topics.
Gas Technology Development: Contribute to the advancement of gas technologies, including LNG bunkering, dual-fuel engines, and alternative fuel solutions.
About You
Education: Degree in Maritime Studies from a university or maritime academy
Seagoing Experience: Served onboard LNG/LPG carriers, preferably as Chief Officer or Master
Shore-based Experience: At least 5 years in a maritime operations, voyage planning, navigation, cargo handling, or classification role
Shipbuilding Knowledge: Experience in ship design, construction, site supervision, and specification review is a plus
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of gas carrier design, cargo systems, safety protocols, and FSRUs
Regulatory Compliance: Familiar with IMO, IGC Code, IACS, ISM, ISPS, TMSA, SIRE and other industry standards
Risk Assessment: Ability to evaluate operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
Communication & Leadership: Strong interpersonal, training, and technical leadership skills
Mobility: Willing to travel on short notice for overseas assignments when required
