About the Role:
Our Client is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to join our esteemed Risk Advisory & Assurance Services team as the Director of Maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) Audit and Advisory Services. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the safety and security of our global maritime operations, providing vital insights and independent assurance to our Board of Directors and Senior Management. As a key member of a world-class, multi-disciplinary team, you will drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across our international maritime operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of 29 professionals, managing internal audit activities across nine distinct brands.
- Audit & Advisory Oversight:
- Develop and implement the annual HESS audit plan, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all relevant areas.
- Oversee internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, including root cause analysis and the development of management action plans.
- Manage assessments of new ships' ISM compliance prior to their delivery.
- Supervise HESS audits for shore-based operations, including ports, tour facilities, and training centers.
- Conduct HESS-based process, system, and organizational reviews to identify and promote best practices.
- Monitoring & Reporting:
- Regularly assess and report on the progress of management’s implementation of agreed opportunities, including those arising from SMS and shore-based audits, cross-brand reviews, and HESS investigations.
- Report directly to the Chief Audit Officer on HESS audit activities, project plans, audit outcomes, trends, and management actions.
- Provide detailed reports to the Board on the annual audit plan, audit results, trend analysis, and the status of management action plans.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Maritime-related field; Master’s degree or equivalent professional license (e.g., Deck Officer, Chief Engineer) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of maritime experience, with a strong background in Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security disciplines.
- Deep knowledge of maritime regulations and requirements, particularly for passenger ships.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of addressing audiences of all sizes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of professionalism, independence, and confidentiality.
- Effective leadership and management style, with the ability to motivate and support a diverse team.
- Proactive, inquisitive, and assertive demeanor with sound judgment.
- Minimal travel is required (less than 25%), with occasional shipboard visits likely.
- Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety or health hazards.
