JOB DESCRIPTION:
LINE OPERATIONS, SENIOR EXECUTIVE
General Information
Main function: Line Operations
Line Operations (LO) has a set of duties designed by the Hub Director given the unique nature of the trades of that Hub while performing operational functions like stowage planning, Dangerous Goods approvals, Bunker related activity, etc.
Purpose of the role:
To ensure the safe stowage vessel planning and reduction of operating cost of vessels as part of the Line Management team, and to provide a professional link between Vessels Master and Line Management team in regard to all operational matters.
Reports to:
Bold reporting line to Operations Team Leader
Additional Working relationships:
Agents / CSR for Cargo and Operational matters and terminals Legal for claim related matters
Fleet Management (For Owned vessels where required)
Role responsibilities
Main Accountabilities:
Assist Line Management in vessel selection with reference to loadability and operational
suitability in specific trade areas.
Execution of Voyage instructions to new chartered vessels and ensure that operational
procedures are followed by the vesel throughout the charter.
Maximize vessel stowage based on vessel specifications declared with minimum shut out /
restows due to stowage issues, with equal crane split to optimise cargo operations and without
impeding on vessel safety.
Closely monitor SMART (in-house vessel monitoring control) system to minimise pending reports
and delayed submission. Ensure SMART tracking is accurate. Assist LM with monitoring of Alerts
to ensure vessels are following instructions at all times.
Support line management in monitoring and coordinating downline berth window with port of
call agents and highlight situations which could lead to vessel delays, congestion or affect
terminal productivity.
Manage Dangerous Goods (DG) / Over Dimensions Cargo requests and ensure strict compliance
with the in-house DG exclusion list unless a valid exception has been authorised.
Role responsibilities (cont’d)
Monitor tug usage on the arrival / departure reports and raise queries with Master / Assist
Operations Manager where excess tug usage is spotted.
Monitor Ship Daily Report closely to ensure initial action is taken and terminals are put on
notice.
Additional responsibilities:
Support current Business Transformation initiatives as and when required concerning EDI integration with terminals, customers and development of internal procedures relating specifically to areas of expertise.
Key performance Indicators:
On time work delivery
Accurate and on time internal and external communication with special reference to Cargo load
ability and maximizing vessel utilization.
Good internal working relationships - Maintain a positive, supportive and professional
relationship with the Line Manager, Agents, Customer, Master and CSR (where applicable).
Core competencies
Appropriate level of education, knowledge and working experience: Education, Knowledge & Working Experience
Minimum Diploma in Maritime Studies / Marine Engineering or equivalent;
Possess 3-5 years shipping operational experience;
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Good knowledge of English both oral and written.
