Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to join our client's team, overseeing the technical operations and performance of their tanker fleet. This role is essential in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and mechanical reliability of our vessels, working closely with ship officers, repair teams, and regulatory bodies.

Please note, you must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder as sponsorship isn't available for this role. 

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, you will manage key technical aspects of assigned vessels, including shipyard repairs, maintenance scheduling, and compliance with both company and industry standards. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, with additional hours as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Vessel Oversight: Ensure the safe and efficient operation of assigned vessels by monitoring performance data, safety protocols, and operating budgets.
  • Shipyard Repairs: Supervise shipyard repairs, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards within budget. This includes negotiating and settling invoices, overseeing repair schedules, and confirming vendors meet all technical and quality requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vessels meet federal, state, and port authority regulations, as well as customer and company standards. Participate in the approval of vessel requisitions and compliance with ship terminal policies.
  • Long-term Planning: Develop and implement long-term maintenance schedules, planning shipyard periods and ensuring ongoing operational readiness of vessels.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with vessel officers and crew to promote a strong safety culture, conduct safety meetings during vessel visits, and ensure that all concerns are addressed. Maintain regular communication with vessel operators and charterers regarding vessel activities.
  • HSSEQ Coordination: Collaborate with the Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) team to resolve shipboard safety and environmental issues, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Vessel Visits: Conduct regular on-site vessel visits to monitor conditions, attend safety meetings, and address any operational or technical concerns.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in maritime technical management, with a proven track record in overseeing vessel operations and shipyard repairs
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, including federal and state requirements for vessel operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage budgets, negotiate with vendors, and ensure vessels meet operational and safety standards
Preferred:
  • Experience working with QSMS (Quality, Safety, Management Systems) procedures
  • Strong technical knowledge of vessel operations and maintenance
